So I was on babysitting duties this weekend as my daughter and son-in-law's schedule conflicted so i was asked a few weeks ago to step in. Grandma to the rescue…
I actually love spending time with my little cherub. He is 4 and is actually hilarious… Keeps me on my toes that is for sure.
So the weekend theme was Pizza & DJ party. Zak has seen somewhere on YouTube or Netflix someone dj'ing so suddenly he wanted to have a DJ party at mine and who am i to crush a 4 year old's dream….
So we set it up in the back of my dining room, my round metal coffee table as the deck, a purple sustainable plate and his record and my beats headphones, oh and some black wannabe Raybans. He looked legit..
But we needed to connect the Alexa to my Spotify so what he heard through the Beats was also what I heard out loud. That took some time, every time i asked Alexa to play my Spotify, she kept saying 'playing Disney on Spotify!' Alexa was clearly trying to be a killjoy and not play our DJ tunes.
After several attempts, back and forth on Spotify, I realised i needed to link my Spotify on the app to allow Alexa to connect. I basically needed to disable my privacy settings.
We were ready to PARTAY!! And boy did we crank it.
I think his 4 year old brain decided 2 tunes was plenty and he started banging the plate, flipping it and doing everything opposite to what a DJ would do…. I was even directing him on his facial expressions, how he spun his 'records' and have to say, the kid did well... a whole 2 minutes. This huge set up for 2 tunes. !!
I almost bought glow sticks earlier in the day but decided against it, now i regret it. They would have been sick and it would have lit him up like a Christmas tree. Definitely getting those for our next scheduled DJ party….
Ok so the 2 tunes lasted 5 minutes so we turned the DJ party into a dancing party. A good tune came on and I can't even remember the song (brain fog!), but it had a good beat and all i remember is picking Zak up over my shoulders like a fireman and spinning in each direction… we had such a laugh…. it was pure innocence…. and his laugh was so beautiful.
Oh, before all this partying we carb loaded on homemade pizza. Zak made his own pizza, well M&S made the dough balls but Zak rolled it out & topped it with sweetcorn and peppers
The funny thing is I didn't have normal white flour for rolling so we used Buckwheat flour. Internally i was laughing, I 'bake' but don't have basic flour….
Anyway Zak made his pizza, we baked it and he ate 1 little slice. I guess he wasn't hungry but I told him his mom would shout at grandma if he didn't eat. He then proceeded to tell me to 'trick' mummy. A softer way to say let's lie to his mom and say he ate all his pizza…
I was gobsmacked. But within 5 minutes of him asking for this alliance, his mom FaceTimed us. Zak took the phone, started babbling to his mom about how he ate all his pizza…
Who am I to crush a child's vivid imagination….
He pulled it off. His mom was so shocked he ate all his food and even said "wow Zak you must have been hungry!" I am laughing, in shock and dumbfounded this kid pulled it off.
He hung up and just smirked at me and said, 'I TRICKED HER' WOW. What a genius....
I know it is wrong to 'trick' your parents so I did tell her quietly when I dropped him off... the guilt was eating me up. He ate plenty today so we are balanced…
In between all the fun we had, I also had some orders to make up so I was in the kitchen using my mixer. He came in yesterday evening and made a comment about 'making those again' I laughed and said YES!
Then today he said again, "You making more of those things…" I said what things.. and he said, "those MEATBALLS for people…"
Well this made me lol. I am vegan, so no animal was harmed in the blending of my Biscoff mix… and secondly they are sweet so he could not have been further from the truth. Really made me smile...
He can see me making these and understands they are for other people. I explained it to him a while back when my daughter was helping me one weekend with a lot of orders. He saw that so we explained what was going on. I said they are a healthy treat for people.
I guess my whole point with this blog is that health truly is my most important factor.
If I didn't have my health, I would not be able to keep up with an active 4 year old, not have the energy to start this business, and I am also a qualified personal trainer so I train local women and have trained online too. I have a full time demanding job, plus I train strength train myself too. Without my health I honestly don't think I would manage all of this.
I am just so passionate about supporting longevity… with exercise and diet, it is never a chore.. It is a privilege.
We went to Legoland Discovery on Sunday and then walked around Trafford Centre. About 70% of the time I was carrying Zak through the shopping mall as he was knackered from Legoland and our rave, DJ, dancing party and we had gone to bed quite late the night before. I am just so grateful I can keep up with him. At 50, that doesn't happen by accident....
I also started organising monthly sunrise walks for local women (and well-behaved dogs!) our next walk is the 24th May. It is such an amazing feeling being with women who want to get healthier and spend time with like-minded people. More to come on this....
If you are still reading, congratulations. You are starting to understand how my brain works. Multiple tabs open, all with my full focus. That is the only way I can explain it.
And on that note — the Simply Sabina Starter Pack is here , available now for collection & online coming soon. Go on, you know you want a 'meatball.'
If my spelling offends you, blame the perimenopause... I'm moving on.
Ok bye and please come back… i love doing this blog thing!
